Margaret Thomson

My name is Margaret Thomson and for many years I worked for the local authority as an inclusion advisor for the Early Years Team. During this time, I trained as a Signalong Tutor so that I could offer this service to the settings. When the service was commissioned out to private tender, I decided to take voluntary redundancy and in the last few years I have continued to sign stories to pre-school children.

I run a toddler group for my local church and use Signalong at story and song time. This is enjoyed by parents and children alike. They are always keen to learn a few signs.

I now work for the local authority again in the adult and family learning team teaching Signalong to families and practitioners – over the last few months I have used Zoom to teach, normally we teach at the local libraries.

With the onset of COVID 19 and social distancing I have found it impossible to open the Toddler group again but parents are keen to meet up and I am hoping to be able to offer them and others Signalong for Babies, as a means to achieve this.

I also work for a charity called Malvern Special Families who are keen for me to offer courses to families, particularly those with young children who cannot access our play schemes. For those with children who are too young, offering them a group they can attend will be very helpful. I am also a supply TA for a local special school.

I am very keen to get started as a Signalong for Babies Trainer and as you can see I have many outlets for places to offer this training.

I look forward to starting this new venture.
